Fleet · Services · Business model

Five hulls, one shipyard — built for the Somali coast.

Sommarine designs and builds fibreglass fishing vessels in Kismayo, ranging from 6 m artisanal hulls to 24 m long-range commercial boats. Each is engineered for the conditions our crews actually operate in.

The fleet

Fibreglass hulls, sized for every kind of crew.

Every Sommarine vessel is built end-to-end at our Kismayo boatyard using durable fibreglass and environmentally conscious practices. Sizes range from artisanal inshore boats to long-range commercial vessels — each tuned for the work it has to do.

How the business works

Sommarine builds. GlobalSom fishes.

Sommarine Limited is the manufacturing arm — we design and build the vessels. GlobalSom, our operational subsidiary, runs the fishing activities the boats are made for. The two businesses are vertically integrated, which keeps the fleet busy, the catch consistent, and the boats specified exactly to the work.

Beyond GlobalSom, our boats also serve government agencies, NGOs, research institutions and independent commercial fishing operators across the region.

Business model

Eight ways the business earns — and reinvests.

Sommarine isn't only a builder. The fleet, the workshop and the team generate revenue across the maritime value chain — and the proceeds fund more boats, more training and more capacity along the Jubaland coast.
